Earthwork Estimator

Job Description

Embodies the company culture, SQE, and delivers results accordingly. In accordance with the President’s vision, SQE mission and strategic plan, the Estimator assists the VP of Operations in developing and executing competitive estimates, solid work plan and go-to-market strategy for the given geographic areas.  The estimator prepares estimates, schedules, and other proposal documents to assist in securing profitable work.  Stays in tune with market conditions, means, methods, and project progress regarding the accuracy of estimates.  Reports directly to the VP of Operations.


  • Follows Edgerton’s internal bidding process
  • Provides high-level overviews for potential projects
  • Provides budgetary estimates as needed for clients
  • Reviews bid documents and site conditions to understand the work in preparation for and while submitting a proposal.
  • Works directly with the VP, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other internal resources while providing quality proposals for projects.
  • Answers scoping requests and attends scoping meetings with VP and clients to negotiate work
  • Follows up with potential clients regarding the status of active proposals for the award
  • Upon project award, sets up project, schedules, and runs hand off meeting with operations to hand off the project to PM as new point man for the project.


  • Provides support as needed to PM and field staff during the project setup and startup phase of the project related to scope.
  • From time to time, follows the progress of the project from costs, sequencing, and means & methods to further understand market constraints, problems on projects, and actual costs/productivity for the work.
  • Visits project sites as time allows
